A 70-year-old man is set to appear in court tomorrow, charged with a “threatening act towards dwelling” after allegedly threatening to blow up his house in Sydenham.

Police responded to reports of threats at a Percival Street address around 10:40 am on Monday.

As a precaution, they established a 100-metre cordon and evacuated nearby residents and businesses.

A resident of Tennyson Street reported being informed by police about the bomb threat and was instructed to evacuate to Colombo Street.

Businesses on Colombo Street near the incident were also evacuated.

The man was taken into custody without incident, and the property was cleared to ensure public safety.

Police have thanked the Sydenham community for their patience and understanding during the operation.
