Police arrested a 41-year-old man who had a warrant to arrest following an AOS callout in Mairehau last night.
As first reported by Chris Lynch Media the Armed Offenders Squad was called to an address on Wanaka Place at about 8PM.
The man was taken into custody after a period of negotiation, a police spokesman said.
“Police took appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of nearby residents while responding to the situation.”
Nearby residents were evacuated by police while negotiations with the man took place.
A scene guard was in place today and examination took of the property took place.
“We would like to thank those affected for their support and appreciate it may have been unsettling” a police spokesman said.
The man appeared in court today on a number of charges including threatening to kill, assault and kidnapping.
