A light plane has crashed landed off the coast of Tasman.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com police were responding to Ruby Bay following a report of a light plane crash landing off the coast of Tasman.

The crash was reported around 7:30pm.

Maritime NZ  was lead agency for the rescue.

A NZ Defence Force plane was also called to assist the rescue.

Chris Lynch Media understands a person, the sole pilot, has been winched into a rescue helicopter and was en-route to Nelson Hospital.
