Staff at a popular Christchurch restaurant were left shaken after a projectile was fired at their front window.
The incident occurred just after 9pm at Tony’s Teppan-Yaki Japanese Restaurant on Riccarton Road.
Restaurant founder Bernard Wong told chrislynchmedia.com that fortunately, no one was injured.
“We are all okay. Luckily, we were closed, and the blinds were drawn,” Wong said.
“One of my staff heard a loud bang, went outside, and found the glass shattered with a hole at the top.”
Police searched the area, both outside and inside the restaurant, but did not find any evidence at the scene.
“They’ll be collecting CCTV footage from neighbouring businesses tomorrow,” Wong said.
According to Wong, police suspect the damage was caused by a slingshot or a BB gun, as the projectile didn’t penetrate fully.
“Our outside glass is tempered and double-glazed. The outer layer shattered, but the inner glass is still intact,” Wong said.
