The Killers concert in Christchurch tonight was interrupted by a “pyrotechnics mishap.”

Emergency services were called to the venue in Addington just after 10PM.

A concert-goer told Chris Lynch Media the show finished about 20 minutes early, not realising they came back on stage.

“We heard a loud bang and the power went out on stage. The side screens and instruments all went dark.

We left before there were lots of people leaving.”

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch “there was a mishap with the pyrotechnics which caused a small fire and a lot of smoke.

Fire and Emergency crews and an electrician extinguished the fire and the band resumed the set.

No one was injured. Police were onsite as part of standard policing operations at a large event.”

A Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said “they received a call to the venue a sprinkler activation occurred.

“We dispatched two fire trucks to investigate. Our crews have both left the Arena. They were there for 20-25 minutes.”

The Killers are an American rock band formed in Las Vegas in 2001 by Brandon Flowers.
