Emergency services were called to Christchurch airport after a Jetstar plane slid off a runway at this morning.
A police spokesperson said “Police were notified of an aircraft sliding off a runway in Christchurch at around 7.45am.”
There are no reports of injuries.
A Jetstar spokesman said “after landing in Christchurch, the aircraft experienced a steering issue, causing it to veer on the runway at low speed.
There are no injuries to passengers or crew. The aircraft was towed to the gate and all passengers have disembarked.”
Several domestic arrivals and departures to Christchurch have been cancelled.
Flights have been diverted to Nelson airport: One each from Wellington, Napier, and New Plymouth.
The partner of an Auckland flight bound for Christchurch said they won’t able to catch their flight to Christchurch until 5PM.
Six fire trucks, one ladder unit and a command unit were sent but the units were stood down.
St John ambulance sent two rapid response vehicles to the scene.
Christchurch Airport said the crosswind runway has now reopened after an incident with an arriving Jetstar aircraft this morning.
The terminal is open as normal.
