Former Green Party MP Golriz Ghahraman has lost her bid to overturn shoplifting convictions.
The Auckland High Court dismissed her appeal to have the four convictions erased.
was fined $1600, plus $260 in court costs, after being found guilty in June.
Her earlier request for a discharge without conviction was also turned down by Judge June Jelas.
Her lawyer said a conviction could hinder Ghahraman’s prospects of reviving her legal career.
However, Justice Venning found no evidence to suggest the Law Society would reject her application for a practising certificate because of the convictions.
He also noted there was no indication that the convictions would impact her chances of securing a position at the International Criminal Court.
Ghahraman resigned from Parliament following the shoplifting allegations.
