A West Coast couple refused to let a bit of flooding ruin their wedding day. Amber and Joel Greene had been planning their special day for the past year.
“But in true Coast fashion,” Amber said, “it turned out to be torrential rain on our big day.”
They held their ceremony inside the Omoto Racecourse in Kaiata, Greymouth, on Saturday, and within a few hours, both entrances to the venue were completely flooded.
“Most people would have been thrown off by that, but instead of letting it get us down, we used it to our advantage for some pretty incredible photos!” Amber said.
One of the groomsmen brought his 4-wheel drive, taking the couple to a small, raised area where they could capture their wedding photos amid the dramatic landscape.
“Civil Defence even made a surprise appearance to check everything was safe, and they gave us the all-clear before heading out again.”
Amber laughed as she described the day: “Both my husband and I were born and raised here, so it was a true West Coast wedding, weather and all!
We also had a 4 wheel drive to get people out at the end of the night’s celebrations.
