Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews are fighting multiple vegetation fires across the South Island, at Hurunui, Waipara, Springfield, Selwyn, the McKenzie Country and Shannon near Dunedin.

Fire and Emergency is urging South Islanders not to burn outdoor fires in the high winds today.
Helicopters have been deployed to some of the fires.
A resident in Amberley said electricity had been cut to the town.
A police spokesman said Mt Brown Road and Racecourse Road have had houses evacuated for precaution. (Broomfield)
About half a dozen homes on Rubicon Road have been evacuated for precaution for a fire in that area. (Springfield)
Police are on scene at all three assisting with traffic management, more to also keep people away from the area while emergency services battle the fires.
