Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on Memorial Avenue in Christchurch, where a vehicle is upside down trapping a person inside.
An eyewitness said the crash happened between the intersections of Greers Road and Graham Road, in the westbound lane heading towards Christchurch Airport.
“I’ve just driven past it and there were multiple ambulance vehicles, marked and unmarked police cars, and several fire engines all blocking off that lane,” the witness said.
According to the witness, a car was seen on its roof, and emergency crews were using cutting equipment to extract the occupant from the front seat.
“It looked very serious,” they said.
The crash has caused significant traffic disruption in the area as emergency personnel work at the scene.
A St John spokesman said they were called to the scene at 3.39PM.
Two ambulances, a rapid response unit, and one operations manager attended.
