The son of legendary country music icon Charley Pride is bringing his father’s timeless hits to New Zealand stages — joined by special guest Kylie Harris.
Dion Pride will perform some of Charley Pride’s most unforgettable songs, including Kiss An Angel Good Morning, Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone, and Mountain of Love, offering fans a heartfelt tribute to one of country music’s most beloved stars.
The world tour premieres in Christchurch and will feature eight shows across New Zealand before heading to Australia and then onto international stages. It’s a special opportunity for fans to connect with the music of a country legend while experiencing the fresh energy Dion brings to the stage.
Joining Dion is award-winning country music artist Kylie Harris, who is excited to return to New Zealand and Australia as part of the tour. Kylie is the youngest-ever winner of the Gold Guitar Award in her hometown of Gore, which led to a recording contract with BMG and a successful career.
After moving to Nashville, Kylie was mentored by Charley Pride, who even gave up one of his slots at the Grand Ole Opry so she could debut there.
Kylie said she is thrilled to retrace the steps she took with Charley Pride on tour many years ago. “I cannot express how happy I am to be revisiting the journey that Charley and I shared on the road,” she said. “This tour is an amazing opportunity to perform alongside Dion, while providing background vocals and rhythm guitar with Bevan Gardiner.”
Dunedin local Bevan Gardiner, who has previously toured as one of the Pridesmen, will join Kylie on stage. Bevan teaches guitar, singing and drums and has shared the stage with Charley Pride’s band in the past.
An incredible lineup of musicians will also join the tour, including renowned steel player Ronnie Miller, Danny Hutchins on keys, Mark Kalson on fiddle, and a talented kiwi section featuring Tony Waine on bass and Allan Cattermole on drums — all original members of Charley Pride’s band.
Charley Pride, one of the best-selling country artists of all time, broke barriers as the first Black artist to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. With over 70 charted singles and three Grammy Awards, his trailblazing career spanned more than five decades and left a lasting mark on country music around the world.
Dion Pride, a talented singer and songwriter in his own right, grew up immersed in country music. Following in his father’s footsteps, he has carved out his own career, performing original songs as well as his father’s classics — adding his own unique style.
His tribute show allows audiences to experience the soulful and heartfelt songs that made Charley Pride a household name, while celebrating his family’s legacy.
“How much better could it get than performing with someone who is in the Country Music Hall of Fame, on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, and not only that, he’s your dad,” Dion said.
Country music is enjoying a revival in New Zealand, with its appeal reaching a new generation of fans. From the growing popularity of country festivals to sold-out shows by international and local artists, Kiwi audiences are embracing the genre more than ever.
Fans won’t want to miss this special chance to see the next generation of Pride honour one of country music’s most celebrated voices — while also celebrating Kylie Harris’s incredible journey with the Pride family.
