Family, friends, and colleagues have paid tribute to Brian Whiteman, who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident in Harewood, Christchurch, on Friday.

Brian, who had spent over a decade in his job, was changing a crane tyre—a task he performed regularly—when it exploded, killing him instantly.

The accident was reported to emergency services at around 9.15am, a police spokesman said.

In a heart-breaking Give a little page, his father and aunt said “Brian was a young man dedicated and devoted to his job.

“He would talk about his work day in day out to anyone that would listen, the passion in his voice was admirable.

“He was a loved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin & work colleague. He has left us to do this thing called life without him, and joined his mum in heaven who recently grew her wings too.

“Unfortunately the family is unable to cover the costs of his funeral, any donations to ensure Brian is send off this earth in an environment filled of love, we would be forever grateful. We are desperate to give him the send off & farewell he deserves, surrounded by his friends and family”
