SH76 remained closed eastbound at the SH73 Curletts Road off-ramp in Middleton, Canterbury, following a truck crash on Wednesday afternoon.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) said a detour was in place via the SH73 Curletts Road off-ramp and on-ramp.

Traffic was backed up to the Awatea Road overpass around 1.30pm.

Road users were advised to consider using SH1 or taking the Shands Road off-ramp if travelling eastbound.The driver has sustained serious injuries police said.

Meanwhile,  Emergency services are responding to a second single vehicle crash on Curletts Road at around 1:25pm. The road is currently blocked, no injuries have been reported a police spokesman said. Appears the truck itself has not rolled, just the trailer, the spokesman said. Photo sent in by Aleisha Graham
