Coupland’s Bakery has completely outdone themselves with their range of Hot Cross Buns. I picked up a pack of each variety—traditional, cranberry, and double chocolate—and I can honestly say I loved them all.
The first thing you notice is how incredibly soft they are. Whether fresh out of the bag or gently warmed for 20 seconds in the microwave, the texture is perfect—light, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth good.
In fact, while I was waiting for one to heat up, I couldn’t help myself and ate one cold. That’s how good they are—I literally couldn’t wait 20 seconds.
The traditional bun was my personal favourite. It has that nostalgic, spicy sweetness you expect, packed with just the right amount of fruit. It reminded me of how hot cross buns should taste—comforting and classic.
But that’s not to say the other flavours weren’t equally tempting. The cranberry version offers a lovely tart contrast that keeps things interesting, and the chocolate is rich and indulgent without being over-the-top. Each one brings something different to the table, and I genuinely wouldn’t turn any of them down.
They’re all even better with a bit of margarine and strawberry jam—a little trick that takes them to another level. Whether it’s breakfast, afternoon tea, or a sneaky snack, they’re the perfect treat.
Coupland’s has absolutely nailed the balance of flavour, texture, and variety. I can’t fault them. If you haven’t tried them yet, do yourself a favour and grab a pack (or three). Just be warned: they won’t last long once you open them.
