Tributes are being made for a talented 15-year-old boxer who died in a crash on New Year’s Eve in North Canterbury.
Kaide Bailey was killed after the vehicle he was in rolled on Rangiora-Leithfield Road, near Pembertons Road on Saturday night just before 8PM.
Three others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, including one who is in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
Valhalla Boxing in Rangiora made the heartbreaking public announcement on Kaide’s death on social media.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the young Valhalla warrior Kaide.
He trained hard, fought hard and was a great young guy. Taken way too soon. Sending love to his family and friends. Rest in peace young Warrior.”
Kaide’s boxing friends have described him as “talented and very hard-working.”
Kadie’s friend Riley Dodd told Chris Lynch Media she met Kaide through work.
“He was my favourite person to work with. We would always talk to each other and work won’t be the same without him. He loved rap artist Play boi Carti.”
Riley said “Kaide and I grew so close over the shortest period of time and I’m so grateful for the fun moments we have had. He would always say how he wanted a family with two kids, a son first, then a daughter and he wanted to be very rich so he could financially support his children.”
He didn’t care what anyone said about him or to him. He did whatever made him happy. Every moment I spent with him was full of laughs. I will always remember him making me laugh and I’ll forever cherish the time we spent together” Riley said.
A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit attended the scene.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
