A children’s ride at the Christchurch Show has been shut down after safety concerns were raised.

The Cartoon Coaster was closed by WorkSafe inspectors, following reports of loose parts that could pose a risk to riders.

An attendee shared photos of the ride on social media saying “be careful at the Christchurch Show, Bolts coming out of ride…and operators not caring.”

WorkSafe said in a statement that “the ride at the Canterbury show has been taken out of action, after WorkSafe was alerted to loose parts that could endanger riders.

“Following an on-site assessment today, a prohibition notice has been issued which prevents the Cartoon Coaster from being used until WorkSafe is satisfied that safety improvements have been made.”

Other visitors at the Christchurch Show said they saw bolts falling from the ride before it was shut down.
