Christchurch is in for a generally pleasant weekend of weather, according to John Law from MetService, with warm temperatures and mostly dry conditions expected across the city.
Saturday is shaping up to be the best day of the weekend, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching around 22°C. While there may be some cloud cover later in the day, Law said it should stay dry, making for ideal conditions for events like Electric Avenue.
“For most of Christchurch, it should stay dry throughout the day,” Law said, though he advised those in southern parts of Canterbury to watch out for the possibility of an isolated shower.
On Sunday, during the Philippine Festival, attendees can expect slightly cloudier conditions and the chance of a brief shower.
Despite this, temperatures will remain comfortable in the low 20s.
Looking ahead to Monday, the start of the working week is forecast to remain dry, with high pressure building across the region.
Temperatures are expected to climb to around 26°C by Tuesday, though increasing cloud cover could bring some patchy wet weather later in the week.
Overall, Christchurch residents can look forward to a warm and largely settled weekend—perfect for enjoying the city’s events and festivals!
