The much-loved Christchurch Hospital Volunteers Gift Shop has received a fresh, modern makeover.

After being well-worn from years of service, the shop now boasts a new design and a complete fit-out funded by the dedicated volunteers themselves.

The revamped gift shop was officially reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Senior Operations Manager George Schwass, marking a new chapter for this  hospital facility.

Ann Hill, the Retail Coordinator and Shop Manager said “whether you need to post a parcel, get a lolly hit, pick up a magazine, or buy a gift to cheer a patient, the shop is always there.”

“Thanks to the unwavering dedication of our wonderful volunteers, the gift shop has donated close to $2.2 million in patient and visitor comfort items, supported staff education, and, at times, purchased equipment.”

As the primary funding source for the volunteers’ committee, the gift shop enables the approval of numerous grants.

The recent renovations will ensure the shop continues to thrive and provide excellent service to everyone who visits.

“Our volunteers bring their skills and kindness every day,” Ann said. “In doing so, they provide a much-needed service while raising money that contributes to many projects and patient comfort items within the hospital. One hundred percent of profits go back to the hospital community. It’s so worthy of your support.”

In addition to the physical shop, the volunteers also run an online service, allowing friends and relatives to purchase gifts for loved ones in the hospital, with a volunteer personally delivering each item.
