A child is recovering at home after a water incident at Te Pou Toetoe Linwood Pool last night.

A witness said the child was rescued by a fully clothed person who jumped into the pool just after 8 PM.

St John said the boy was in a serious condition when they attended last night.

However, the nine year old’s mum told chrislynchmedia.com her son “suffered minor concussion due to a group of kids playing on the inflatable, which was flipped, and kids landed on top of my son unbeknownst to them that my child was there.”

“An ambulance arrived on the scene and observed him in their vehicle for 20 minutes.

“Before they left, my son was alert and okay. They just needed to take him to the hospital to ensure he received the best care.”

She said, “When he arrived at the hospital, he was wide awake, talking, and asking for his siblings.”

“The doctor checked him and said my son’s breathing was good. An X-ray was done to make sure there was no water in his lungs, and those results came back clear. We were there for 3-4 hours before the doctor was confident my son would make a full recovery.”

A St John spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com they were notified of a water incident and responded with an ambulance, manager, and rapid response unit to the scene.

A police spokesperson said they were not required to attend the scene.

A council spokesperson said, “There was an incident at Te Pou Toetoe Linwood Pool last night. Staff followed all protocols, and the person was conscious before being transported by ambulance to the hospital.”
