Construction on Lincoln Road has finished a month ahead of schedule.

Peak hour bus lanes and lowered speed limits will be operational by the end of October.

Work to install the bus lanes, replace the watermain and upgrade the Lincoln/Barrington/Whiteleigh intersection was scheduled to finish in time for Show Weekend so not to disrupt Cup and Show Week.

The new bus lanes and a permanent 30km/h speed limit will be on Lincoln Road between Whiteleigh Avenue and Moorhouse Avenue.

The peak hour bus lanes will run on weekdays between 7am and 9am towards the city and between 3pm and 6pm towards Halswell.

There is also a peak hour bus lane on the south side of Moorhouse Avenue between Selwyn Street and Lincoln Road which will only operate between 3pm and 6pm during weekdays.

Driving for more than 50m in a bus lane during operating times can result in a $150 fine while parking in the bus lane while it is operational would see a $60 fine.
