BREAKING: A man has been arrested following a shocking incident of animal abuse caught on a security camera.

As first reported by chrislynchmedia.com, the footage showed the man repeatedly striking and kicking a dog, leaving the animal yelping and whimpering in pain.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, January 9, on Park Lane near Levi Park.

On Tuesday evening, a police spokeswoman exclusively told chrislynchmedia.com, “Selwyn Police executed a search warrant at an address in Rolleston on Monday in relation to an animal cruelty matter involving a German Shepherd which had been posted on the Rolleston Facebook page.”

The spokeswoman confirmed, “Police can reassure the public that the dog is safe, and a man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.”

She added, “We would like to thank members of the public for coming forward with information that led to this positive result.”

On Friday, the SPCA renewed its call for additional information about the incident.

A spokesperson said “over the weekend, police decided to continue their investigation into the matter. SPCA has offered to help, however as we are not the lead agency, and this is an open investigation we’re unable to provide further information.”
