Residents of a quiet Hornby street are in shock after a fatal fire claimed the life of a person this afternoon.
As first reported by chrislynchmedia.com, emergency services were called to Dickson Crescent shortly before 1pm.
A police spokesperson confirmed, “Tragically, a resident of the house was found deceased inside the property.”
Cordons were established on Dickson Crescent as emergency crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
A neighbour told chrislynchmedia.com she was stunned as watched the street quickly fill with emergency vehicles, including several fire appliances and a significant police presence.
“This is a pretty quiet street usually. It was such an unbelievable sight—it doesn’t feel real,” she said”
“I saw the emergency services arrive just moments before smoke engulfed my backyard.”
Fire crews from Spreydon, Redwood, and Ilam stations were on-site working to manage the fire.
Another resident noted that an elderly woman, who frequently received visits from carers, lived at the address. However, he was unsure if she was the person who died.
A St John spokesperson confirmed that another person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
