A 10-metre launch has sunk on its mooring at Cass Bay after heavy weather swept through the region yesterday.
Environment Canterbury said there was a small amount of diesel onboard the vessel, but it is contained in sealed tanks and no fuel has been seen on the water.
A spokesperson said, “We’re working with the owner and insurers to refloat the vessel today, and we’ll continue to monitor and act if needed to minimise impacts to the environment.”
Members of the public who come across any debris are asked not to touch it, but to report it by calling 0800 765 588.
