Armed police surrounded a house in Somerfield this morning, drawing significant attention from locals.

Witnesses said police, along with the Armed Offenders Squad, blocked off a section of Barrington Street before entering a residence near the corner of Rose Street.

Other reported a large police presence in the area around 10.30am.

A police spokesman said the operation was part of a pre-planned search warrant.

Police have not said if any arrests were made.
