Armed police have conducted “pre-planned” search warrants in two Christchurch suburbs, prompting a large emergency response.
In the first incident, police surrounded a property on Somerfield Street just after 8 am.
A resident said they saw armed police banging on the door of a property, shouting they had a search warrant.
Another resident said they witnessed a half-naked man being arrested on the street. A second person was also arrested at the address a witness said.
In a separate incident, armed police executed a search warrant on Aorangi Road between Clyde Road and Brookside Terrace.
A resident reported that the road was closed just after 11 am, with a “huge police presence, AOS, and ambulances.”
A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com that police conducted search warrants at both addresses but could not confirm what the searches were related to.
