A police negotiation team has been called to a house in Blenheim after a man carrying a firearm entered a property on Park Terrace last night.

Marlborough Area Commander Inspector Simon Feltham said officers were called to the house at about 5.10pm.

Two people were inside at the time, and one managed to escape to safety, while the other remains inside with the armed man.

“The Police Negotiation Team is at the scene, and no injuries have been reported,” Feltham said.

“We are focused on the welfare of both people inside the address and are working hard to resolve this peacefully.”

As a precaution, neighbours were moved to temporary accommodation overnight, and police are keeping them updated.

The incident remains confined to the property, and police said there is no risk to the wider community.

A section of Park Terrace has been cordoned off, and the public is being asked to avoid the area.

Police said further updates will be provided as they become available.
