A Christchurch pub has been targeted by youths for a second night in a row, but this time, the criminals didn’t get away.
Youths smashed their way into the Sharkey’s Pub and Cafe on Hoon Hay Road at 1.30AM.
A neighbour told Chris Lynch Media she was putting something in her car when she heard smashing glass.
“I called 111 to report it and walked around the corner. The pub was smashed for the second night in a row.”
The police officer told her a Demio was involved and the offenders had targeted a fish and chip shop minutes earlier.
The door at Cracroft Seafoods in Cashmere was boarded up on Tuesday morning.
The brother of the owner of Sharkey’s said he spent the night at the pub guarding the premises following the second attack.
Yesterday pub owner Anthony Carrington said he was sick of the lack of consequences for offenders and their parents.
A police spokesman said police responded to reports of a burglary at a commercial premises on Hoon Hay Road, and a burglary on Cashmere Road Around 1:30am.
Police located two youths, and the stolen items a short time later.
They will be referred to youth services the spokesman said.
However, the neighbour in Hoon Hay said police told her multiple youths were involved.
