Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash involving four horses on Russley Road this morning.
A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com that the incident, reported around 6:50 a.m., involved a vehicle colliding with a traffic pole and then a second vehicle at the intersection of Russley Road and Yaldhurst Road.
One of the vehicles was transporting horses, which were being assessed on-site, the spokesperson said.
Chris Lynch Media understands four horses were in the float, two of which had fallen down.
They required help from the fire crews to get them up again.
The horses sustained injuries.
An emergency personnel at the scene said “the take home message is that we load these trusting animals into floats and then there are accidents that are so avoidable.
“Horses make the vehicle they are in heavy and slower to respond when needing to brake quickly or turn to avoid collisions.”
The eastbound lane was blocked, and inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
