The dog involved in last week’s Woolston altercation has been euthanised at owner’s request

Emergency services were called to a property on Ferry Road just before 10 am on Thursday, following a violent altercation involving three people.

Police said one person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries, while Christchurch City Council animal control officers also attended the scene.

Police officers were still at the scene an hour after they were first called.

A witness to the incident claimed the altercation was not caused by a dog attack but occurred during a fight between two men, with a woman also involved.

The witness said the dog’s instincts kicked in during the chaos and expressed hope that authorities would consider this perspective and spare the animal.

However, a Christchurch City Council spokeswoman confirmed the dog was euthanised at the request of its owner.

Animal management officers assisted the owner by transporting the dog to a veterinarian.
