Police urging public to come forward following serious assault in Christchurch

Christchurch police are urging to the public to come forward with information following a serious assault in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the Countdown carpark on Moorhouse Avenue at 2am after a man was found with serious injuries.

A police spokesperson said the man was transported to hospital in critical condition.

A man, who was at the scene, told Chris Lynch he tried to provide CPR to the man.

A scene examination is being carried out in the car park area

Detective Senior Sergeant Joel Syme said this afternoon, the victim of today’s serious assault in Sydenham remains in critical condition in hospital.

Police are requesting any witnesses to the incident to make contact.

He said “we are aware there were a number of people in the vicinity of the Countdown car park on Moorhouse Avenue at the time this occurred and we would like to speak with them.”
