A Christchurch early learning centre has been forced to close after its hot water system was stolen for the fourth time in six months.
Hornby Barnados Early Learning Centre manager Sarah Naqova said the centre has had to close due to its licensing requirement to provide hot water.
“This has meant parents and caregivers in Hornby have had to find alternative arrangements for the day.”
Naqova said “security measures have been put in place to secure the hot water system, but it doesn’t seem to concern the burglars who continue to remove the system, time after time.””
“We are now appealing to people for donations to help ensure our tamariki don’t miss out on a day of learning and play again.”
“The next best option to ensure the system doesn’t leave our tamariki in cold waters again, is to bring it indoors.”
“The estimated cost to do this is $15,000. Our insurance only covers replacing the unit itself but not the additional resources to relocate the unit.”
“Any local support to do this would be much appreciated.”
