One person has been taken into custody following a fleeing driver incident in North Canterbury this afternoon.

At around 12.10pm police were called after a stolen vehicle was sighted on Williams Street in Kaiapoi.

A police spokesperson said police deployed a helicopter to follow the vehicle’s movements as the driver is wanted for several high risk driving offences and warrants to arrest.

“Police did not initiate a pursuit, instead road spikes were deployed.”

In video footage sent to Chris Lynch Media by Connor Gooch, shows seven police cars following a small white truck.

The police spokesperson said the vehicle then came to a stop on Cones Road, Loburn at around 1.40pm.

The driver was subsequently taken into custody.

Enquiries are ongoing and charges are being considered.
