Two people are believed to have died in a serious crash near Sefton.

The crash, involving multiple vehicles, happened just before 7PM on Main North Road, State Highway One near Salt Water Creek.

A police spokesperson said the road is closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Chris Lynch Media understands Fire and Emergency crews extricated a person from one of the vehicles, who’s in a serious condition.

Two others died at the scene.

NZTA said the highway is closed between Harleston Road and Wyllies Road due.

“The Serious Crash Unit is attending and may take several hours for their investigations.”

“Emergency services are on-site, please follow the directions.”
