Dementia Canterbury is inviting the community to join the Walk for Dementia on Sunday, 3rd March, at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub.
This event is designed for people to walk in memory or support of loved ones affected by dementia.
It’s also an opportunity to help raise funds for Dementia Canterbury’s efforts to support individuals and their families within the community.
The Walk for Dementia is more than a fundraiser; it’s an occasion for people to come together, share their experiences, and support one another.
As a not-for-profit organization, Dementia Canterbury assists those diagnosed with dementia and their families.
They offer free education, activities, and specialised support services across the Canterbury and West Coast regions, aiming to help individuals live meaningful lives after a diagnosis.
Aligned with Brain Health Month, the event also highlights the importance of physical activity for cognitive health.
Research shows that staying active can have a positive effect on cognitive function and well-being, particularly for those at risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
The Walk for Dementia encourages participants to engage in physical activity, connect with others, and learn more about maintaining brain health.
Everyone is welcome to participate at their own pace, whether walking, using wheelchairs, or pushing strollers. The event will include spot prizes and a prize for the best-dressed team, adding a fun element to the day.
