A new fire station could be built on historic land in Diamond Harbour.
Acquired in 1913 with an eye towards expansion, this 39.02-hectare tract, encompassing 27 Hunters Road and 42 Whero Avenue, has recently caught the attention of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) and an educational entity.
FENZ has expressed a keen interest in purchasing a portion of this land to construct a new fire station.
The second interested party according to the Christchurch City Council is from a new educational facility.
Both proposals are now open for public consultation starting today.
The land in question, primarily used for grazing, features bush regeneration in three distinctive gullies.
In 2021, the Council had sought public opinion regarding the future of this land, receiving strong feedback emphasising community involvement and the preservation of the natural gullies.
