Looking for things to do this weekend? Here’s five low-cost activities to check out in Christchurch.

$10 Halloween Ice Skating

Enjoy a fun, physical and entertaining activity for the whole family… on ice! This Saturday, Alpine Ice Sports Centre will be offering $10 ice skating for all ages. Come along to the Halloween special from 2pm – 4pm or 7:30pm – 9:30pm.

Dogs on Bikes

Get on your bike and ride with your pup at Biketober’s Dogs on Bikes event from 10am to Midday Sunday. Cycle a loop through the red zone with your pooch in a basket, trailer, box or backpack at Christchurch’s first ever mass dog ride.

To make things even sweeter, the Lil Ice Trike and Cocomutt dog ice cream will be on hand to cool you and your pup down after a big day out. No dog? No problem – bring your bike and ride with the dogs. This free event will kick off from Dallington Landing, Gayhurst Road.

Arcadia Trick or Treat Halloween Week

Come on down to Arcadia at 204 Barbadoes Street this weekend for spooky tunes, spider webs, skeletons and all things scary. Fill up your bag with goodies by getting high scores on games! Dress up in your best Halloween outfit to win some prizes and lollies.

From Pinball to Pacman, Street Fighter to Strike Fighter, there’s 30+ Arcade games to play. For just a $10 per person entry fee, enjoy unlimited gaming! VR headsets and pool table are included in the entry fee. More here.

New Brighton Community Gardens Open Day

Head down to the New Brighton Community Gardens, 136 Shaw Avenue, to celebrate all the beautiful gardens have to offer. Stock up on seedlings, enjoy some kai, browse homemade jams and pickles, and grab a bargain at the op-shopping corner.

This is a free open day and all proceeds from purchased will go towards keeping the garden running. Head down from 12pm – 3pm Saturday, more information here.

Darkroom Halloween Special

Head over to the Darkroom from 7pm Saturday for their 5th annual Halloween Special. Enjoy a jam-packed night of live music from Daytrip, Gecho, KWASI, Saint Peter’s Thursday and Stonechild.

The venue will be kitted out in Halloween décor, and dress ups are encouraged – with bar tabs to be won for best dressed! Grab a ticket from $10 here, please note this event is R18.
