A person has died in a gyrocopter crash at Omaka Airfield in Blenheim.

Emergency services received the first call to the airfield at 1.20PM.

St John Ambulance, and multiple fire and emergency were called to the scene.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said they responded with one ambulance and one First Response Unit.

A police spokesman said the sole occupant of the aircraft has sadly died.

Police will refer this incident to the Civil Aviation Authority.
