Condolences from New Zealand and globally continue to pouring in for Dr Tom Mulholland, a beloved Kiwi advocate for physical and mental well-being, who tragically passed away over the weekend

The medical practitioner helped hundreds of thousands of people globally over the past three decades.

His death has been referred to the coroner and is being investigated as a suspected suicide.

In a heartbreaking post, his son Tommy wrote “I’ve always considered myself one of the luckiest people in the world and my dad was one of the biggest reasons why.

“I have learnt so much from him in my 27 years and my heart is breaking that it ends here. He has lived a hundred lives in his time with us and he has helped countless people.

This is a loss for so many people and we are all devastated, he has always been an advocate of mental health and dedicated so much of his life to the cause.”

A spokesperson for the Forest Industry Contractors Association said “we would like to acknowledge the passing of Dr Tom Mulholland – a huge personality that worked in our industry and got out amongst our frontline workforce.

He drove an understanding of wellbeing and the benefits of good health for our people. He will be missed by many including peers, friends and whanau.”

A Celebrity Speakers spokesperson said they are “deeply shocked and saddened by the news of our friend of 20 years, Dr Tom Mulholland.

“We will share our cherished memories of this incredible man soon, but for now we are sending our deepest condolences and love to Tom’s whānau, friends and the thousands of people who Tom impacted through his kaupapa and love.”

The Rural Support Trust said “Dr Tom worked tirelessly to reach people all around New Zealand in his pop up Chevy clinic promoting early health testing and diagnosis.

“His work to improve health outcomes is recognised globally. Dr Tom made talking about our health not only acceptable but a priority.

“He has saved countless lives by encouraging others to use proactive measures for better health and opened up the conversations around mental and physical health. A passionate advocate, his down to earth, straightforward manner made his message to measure, monitor and manage your health all the more relatable, giving people the knowledge and motivation to act early.

“Dr Tom collaborated with the Rural Support Trust around the country, and we are immensely grateful for his contribution to supporting rural people to achieve better health outcomes.

He will be sadly missed, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.”
