The Ōtākaro Avon and Ōpāwaho Heathcote river care networks have come together with the community Waterways partnership and Environment Canterbury to deliver a fun family focused event on the weekend of World Rivers Day 2023.

The event is located along the North Frame, with entertainment in the Edmonds Band Rotunda.

Dotted around the site will be members of the Waterways Partnership with information, fun games, food trucks and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate waterways and educate people in a fun engaging way how everyone can get involved in cleaning up our rivers.

The activities include the opportunity to enter into a virtual reality underwater world, kids zone with face painting, weaving, live eels and invertebrates, circa, coloring in, games and lots more.

Hayley Guglietta from the Avon Ōtākaro Network says “It is looking a little chilly but don’t let that stop you the rain will have passed, bring the kids into the city for a fun day out at our event then pop across to Margaret Mahy while you are there”

With more than 20 organisations contributing, it promises to be a great day out – don’t miss it!

World Rivers Day Saturday 23rd September 10am to 2pm, North Frame, Central Christchurch, across the road from the Margaret Mahy Playground.
