A man has been charged with kidnapping in relation to the ongoing investigation into missing person Yanfei Bao.
Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said he has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
She was also asking the public to come forward with sightings of a car, first searched by police officers on Saturday at Wigram Airforce Museum.
“The investigation is ongoing, and several people are assisting Police with enquiries.
Chris Lynch Media understands the man was arrested at an airport.
Reeves said “police are seeking sightings of a vehicle [pictured], a silver Mitsubishi sedan, registration DPH101.
“We’re interested in sightings of the vehicle from mid-week up until last night, but with a particular focus on the vehicle’s location on Wednesday 19 July in Wigram, Hornby, Tai Tapu, Halswell, Redcliffs, and New Brighton.”
As reported by Chris Lynch Media, the car was searched by police officers at Wigram Airforce Museum car park on Saturday.
Officers could be seen searching the entire the car, including opening its boot.
It’s understood the car was being followed by police, before officers approached the man in the vehicle.
On Saturday, police denied the car was involved in the missing person case.
However, the car and number plate released by police on Sunday matches the vehicle being searched.
The driver of the car was questioned by police, but was eventually allowed to drive away from the car park according to the witness.
On Sunday a police car was parked up the driveway of a house in Wigram under investigation.
The house is on the same street that Ms Bao’s car was found.
