A slip has closed the Christchurch-Akaroa Road this morning.

NZTA said the road is closed between Birdlings Flat and Little River.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to the slip just after 7AM Wednesday.

Road users are advised to avoid the area or delay their journey if possible.

A police spokeswoman said they received reports of a large slip blocking both lanes of the main highway.

Police were at the scene to help with traffic management.
