A popular 24/7 Christchurch bakery is continuing to suffer from thieves coming into the shop and stealing food and drinks.
Buns Bakery on Ferry Road has been the target of relentless shoplifting and abusive behaviour.
Earlier this year, staff at the bakery had to deal with death threats, racial abuse, and a vicious assault.
Store owner Yvonne told Chris Lynch Media shop lifting is continuing to occur on a daily basis.
“Shop lifting happens every day as usual. It just doesn’t stop, this has been going on for a long time.”
Yvonne says the bakery still opens 24/7, one of the only shops in Christchurch to do so.
“I tried to close then reopen and I ended up with more work for myself, so I decided to remain open 24/7.
“I keep on trying to get more staff, which is a real struggle.”
In another incident caught on CCTV, a youth is filmed taking a whole box of lollies, before approaching the counter to exchange words with Yvonne’s daughters, and then running out the door.
“My daughters who were looking after the shop, chased after this boy to try and get him to stop, but he managed to get away.”
Yvonne says fences surrounding the store have been knocked down, as crime in the area causes shop owners to stay alert.
“I know the people who have been taking the drinks without paying, they keep on stealing from us.
“I told them I would send the footage to police but they said “so what, go ahead then.”
“His partner took whole tray of Monster drinks away. They don’t care at all.”
