Christchurch Police are hunting for a man who attempted to rob the Cashmere Club on Saturday night.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch Media at 9.51pm there was a report of an attempted robbery at commercial premises on Hunter Terrace.

“It doesn’t sound like the person took anything and was seen leaving on foot” the spokeswoman said.

The suspect was reportedly brandishing an axe.

The spokeswoman confirmed the offender had a weapon and no one sustained injuries in the incident.

Multiple police cars were swarming the area last night as they searched for the offender who remains at large.
