Two people have been arrested on Marshland Road in Christchurch.

A witness said the offenders were handcuffed and surrounded by police officers just after 2PM.

“There were lots of cops, road spikes and guns out” the witness said.

A police spokeswoman said they were arrested following an earlier shoplifting incident on Harewood Road.

They left the scene in a vehicle, which was tracked to Marshland Road.

Any charges are unclear at this stage.

At least six police vehicles were on the scene.
