A Christchurch family is devastated after their house in Woolston was ransacked by burglars while they were away on holiday.

According to CCTV footage from neighbours, the offenders arrived at the property on Clydesdale Street at midnight on Saturday, in a minivan and a car.

Both vehicles reversed into the driveway before the burglars proceeded to ransack the house.

A family member said the burglars took everything of value, including two televisions, a Playstation 5, soundbars, expensive liquor, and clothes.

The family member suspects that the offenders were aware of their absence and took advantage of the situation.

“The burglars knew exactly what they were after and left the house in a state of disarray.”

The police were notified of the incident by a concerned neighbour who noticed the front door open.

The family member received a devastating phone call from the police, who suggested that they seek security footage from their neighbours.

A police spokeswoman confirmed police received reports from a neighbour of an insecure property at 10.30am on Saturday, at a residential address at Clydesdale Street in Woolston.

A burglary was later reported via Crime Reporting Line. Crime Prevention advice was given over the phone and victim support was offered.

Police attended this address at 3.50pm that afternoon for a crime scene examination.
