A magnitude 4.7 quake, which struck south east of Christchurch at 1:42PM has been widely felt across Canterbury.

Hundreds of people across Canterbury reported feeling the shake.

A resident said “it was a decent, scary shake in Casebrook! Don’t often feel them but happened to be sitting down for this one. Went on for a bit.”

Another resident said “it felt quite long and rolling in Parklands.”

A resident as far south as Temuka reported feeling the shake as well.

Another resident said he felt it in Ashley Gorge.

“ First one I have felt in 3 years living up here.”
