A magnitude 4.7 quake, which struck south east of Christchurch at 1:42PM has been widely felt across Canterbury.
Geonet said it had a depth of 5km.
Hundreds of people across Canterbury reported feeling the shake.
A resident said “it was a decent, scary shake in Casebrook! Don’t often feel them but happened to be sitting down for this one. Went on for a bit.”
Another resident said “it felt quite long and rolling in Parklands.”
A resident as far south as Temuka reported feeling the shake as well.
Another resident said he felt it in Ashley Gorge.
“ First one I have felt in 3 years living up here.”
