Multiple Fire and Emergency crews have been called to a vegetation fire in Fernside this morning.

They were called to the banks of the Ashley River off Mt Thomas Road at 1 AM Monday.

Fire and Emergency Shift Manager Jill Higgison said six tankers and three appliances were attending the scene.

The fire was thought to be about 200 metres by 200 metres

Weather conditions in the area were windy.

There’s no word yet on the cause of the blaze.

Canterbury is in a restricted fire season.
