Early this morning, a big construction milestone was reached at Christchurch’s multi-use arena, with the first of the major concrete pours taking place!

Over a four-hour period, 71 concrete trucks deposited between 400 and 500 cubic metres of concrete, as work on the arena’s substructure (foundations) reached its next stage.

There are about 40 major concrete pours expected to take place between now and August.

The substructure work is beginning in the south-west corner of the site, and will work north and east across the site.

Contractors have also added windows in the hoardings around the Te Kaha site so you can check out the construction progress as this incredible asset for Christchurch, Canterbury and New Zealand begins to emerge from the ground.
