The Christchurch city centre bus interchange was impacted by a “technology outage this afternoon.”
Environment Canterbury’s General Manager of Public Transport Stewart Gibbon said on Facebook some scheduled maintenance by its supplier has caused an unexpected outage which is affecting the interchange.
“We have temporarily redirected buses to outside the interchange on Lichfield Street to ensure services and operations can continue. We are pleased to report that services continue to operate as scheduled,” he said.
“For customers using Route 17, please continue to use the Hereford Street stop as usual, rather than the interchange.
Our supplier is continuing to work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We are encouraging passengers to allow an extra 10 minutes for their journeys in the meantime.”
Passengers spoken to by Chris Lynch Media seemed mostly relaxed about the outage but thought the communication from bus interchange staff could have been better.
Gibbon said “ if the problem is not solved by Monday morning then the Manchester Street Super Stops will function as the temporary interchange location until the issue is resolved.
