A Christchurch supermarket is the latest victim to be targeted in a ram raid by youths.
A stolen car was used to smash into the Supervalue Fendalton Supermarket on Ilam Road.
A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch Media police were alerted to the burglary at 5.25am today.
A group of offenders stole a small amount of cash and some confectionery.
The stolen car was located abandoned on Racecourse Road a short time later.
The offenders were not located and enquiries are under way to identify and locate them the police spokeswoman said.
“Anyone with information which could assist our investigation is asked to contact Police on 105 and quote event number P053204308.
Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Contractors were at the scene late this morning re-installing large windows.
A smashed window was still visible near the entrance way.
Police attended the scene this morning, taking photographs, fingerprints, and CCTV footage.
A supermarket spokesperson said some of offenders looked “really young, so they’ll probably get a slap on the hand.”
